Not that there was anything wrong with it in the first place, but Ferrari has seen fit to give the California an update for 2012.

The boys in Modena have been tinkering with the 'entry' level Ferrari (three words that really shouldn't go together) to make it more powerful and lighter than ever before.
Now boasting 490bhp and 374lb ft thanks to some engine and exhaust tinkery, the California is good for a 3.8 second 0-62mph dash. Ferrari hasn't released details of its new top speed, but expect it to be higher than the current car's 193mph.

Its quicker 62mph dash isn't all down to power hikes, though. Ferrari technicians also removed 30kgs of unnecessary weight – boosting performance and fuel economy.

The upgrades offer a faster proposition for people who want to keep the cars sporting dynamic, but if you find the California little dynamically lacking you might want to look up the Handling Speciale pack.

The HS pack give the California a set of stiffer springs for a more dynamic ride, a set of Magnetorheological dampers (also found on the 458 Italia), a faster ECU to control said dampers and a 10% faster steering rack for a better turn in.

As well as some rather smart technical upgrades Ferrari is offering a new set of colour options including two-tone and triple layer paint choices.

The updated car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
